Oxford Amateur Boxing Club
This wasn’t my first project with OMAA (Oxford Martial Arts Academy). If you scroll back through my blog or head over to my instagram page you will find the previous project.
There’s something uniquely powerful about taking a logo, and scaling it up into a mural that becomes part of a space. Right now, I’m halfway through a mural project for the Oxford Amateur Boxing Club, painting their logo directly onto the gym wall. It’s already transforming the atmosphere, and I’m excited to see it fully complete soon.
This project has been a collaboration with fellow artist Amira Hasoon (www.amirahasoon.com), whose help, precision, and creative eye have made the process extremely efficient and enjoyable. Working together has brought a great rhythm to the project, two perspectives combining to ensure every line and layer feels just right.
Starting the Process
Because this mural is all about accuracy, we began with a projector. Due to the size, projecting the logo onto the wall allowed us to capture every line, angle, and curve exactly. Logos have a particular precision, even the slightest distortion is noticeable in my opinion and the boxing club didn’t want any creative flair added to the design, so this step ensured we could focus on the flow of painting while knowing the proportions were spot-on.
Tools & Materials
For the mural, we’ve been using acrylic paint pens. They’re one of my favourite tools for wall work because they combine the control of drawing with the vibrancy and durability of paint. On a textured surface like this gym wall, paint pens allow us to build layers of opacity and keep edges clean and sharp. The finish feels both professional and handmade, with just enough texture to remind you it’s painted by hand.
Why Murals Matter
Even at this halfway stage, it’s clear how much a mural can change a space. Murals aren’t just decoration; they shape atmosphere. A logo on a wall does more than brand a space, it roots the identity of the organisation right into its environment. For members of the club, this mural is becoming more than just a symbol: it’s a daily reminder of belonging, pride, and the values they carry into the ring.
Looking Ahead
I am now focused on finishing the detailing and layering to bring out the boldness and balance of the design. There will also be some motivational quotes added to the space.
Every mural is a little different, and this one is all about clarity and impact. I’m looking forward to completing the final touches in the next couple of weeks!
